OUR JOB

support“Our job is not to judge.  Our job is not to figure out if someone deserves something.  Our job is to lift the fallen, to restore the broken and to heal the hurting.”

Many times we will look at a person and situation and think, “Boy, have they made a mess out of their life.  They’ll receive the consequences for their actions.”  Instead how different would the world be, how different would people view Christians if we reacted instead like Christ.

In Luke 7 we see a picture of Jesus doing what He does best…loving people.  In fact, during this time, John the Baptist is in prison and he sent some of his friends to Jesus to find out if He really was the Christ.  Jesus responded in Luke 7:22 by saying,

“Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard:

The blind receive sight,

the lame walk,

those who have leprosy are cleansed,

the deaf hear,

the dead are raised,

and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”

Jesus looks at the broken in such a different way than we usually do.  We tend to analyze how they got in the situation they did, whose fault it was and what the consequences will be in their life.  What we forget is that we are all broken and if we were left with the law only and no grace, none of us could stand.  Jesus instead responds with hope and life.  In fact what we see Jesus doing in the gospels is what he commissioned us to do and carry out after his ascension into heaven.  He told us we are now His hands, His feet, His voice.  He left us with the power of the Holy Spirit to proclaim freedom for those in captivity.

We must press on and remember our primary role on this earth…

to lift the fallen, to restore the broken and to heal the hurting.”
