“And what more shall I say? Time will not allow me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the raging fire, and escaped the edge of the sword; who gained strength from weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.”
Hebrews 11:32-34
Living a life of faith is the only way to truly live. In reflecting on each person listed in this passage, their character was a mixed bag of fear, disobedience, strength, faithfulness, unfaithfulness, wisdom, stupidity and more. Yet despite their disfunction and because of their faith, their life stories were filled with:
- Conquering kingdoms
- Administering justice
- Shutting the mouths of lions
- Quenching raging fires
- Escaping death by the sword
Each one was an ordinary, average person yet lived a radical journey experiencing the fullness and vitality of life that only comes from walking with their God.
It was through pressing in to their Creator they were empowered to be strong even though they were weak, to become mighty warriors that would bring freedom to their people, and caused those in opposition to them to run in fear.
So, if we serve the very same God, why do we expect so little in our own lives? Why don’t we live with expectation that our lives were created for greatness? Our Creative God, designed every single animal, plant and wonder in this world by His spoken Word. Genesis tells us that we are made in His image. Why do we accept small living when we serve a great God?
Nelson Mandela said, “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
What if instead, we chose a life of faith, a life of abundant living? This world needs you to be who you were created to be. Throw off the beliefs that bring small living and determine to live the amazing life God designed for you.
We have but one life and it’s time we live it to the fullest.
May we continue to live…
Rooted in Him,
