Be Free

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?

Luke 13:10-17

When I read this passage, I am overwhelmed by the goodness of Jesus. His love and compassion notices a woman who has been overlooked, discarded, and dismissed by many. She had been bound for most of her life, but God’s purpose for her was to walk in freedom and wholeness.

Here are a few thoughts from this beautiful story:

  • The enemy wants to cripple you.
  • The enemy will keep you focused on your problems instead of looking to Jesus.
  • Jesus sees you and is calling you to Him.
  • Jesus wants to set you free.
  • Just one touch from Jesus can free you from what is holding you back, from what binds you.
  • There will be people around you who don’t want you to be free. They are more concerned with man-made ideas and systems rather than God’s plans.
  • Satan’s crippling tactics will exhaust you and steal years from your life.
  • Jesus wants to restore you.
  • Jesus desires complete freedom and wholeness for you.
  • The negative voices in your life will be silenced as God works in your life.
  • Our response should be to praise God.

What is keeping you bound in your life? The same Jesus who noticed this woman sees you, and just as He called her forward to receive healing, He is calling you. His purpose for you is to be healed, redeemed, and restored to all that He intended for you.

Let’s praise Him as we receive our healing.

May we continue to live…
Rooted in Him,
