“Because you are the true source of all that is really life, direct my steps away from all that is not of you.”

Every day we make decisions about what to do with our lives, what we place our focus on, how we spend our time, what’s most important. It’s amazing how distracted I can become. How I can get my focus on things that are temporary. I forget that my life here on earth is temporary but what I do here can matter in eternity if I keep my focus on God. I can be like a little kid who one moment wants one thing and the next minute something different. I can become dissatisfied and desire things that are not good for me. Isaiah 30:21 says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you , saying, ‘this is the way; walk in it.'” I pray that the Lord will not let me leave His path, that my ears would be attuned to His direction.
I think of John 15 where we are compared to branches and Jesus is the vine. Our life is full when we are connected to the vine, our source of life. God wants to prune away the branches in our lives that are zapping away the strength and power of God that will make us productive. Verses 4 and 5 says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
It is my prayer that God will direct me away from everything that is not of God and that I will be tapped into Him so that I can truly live the life the way He intended me to. I want to hear His voice saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
