“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to FINISH his work.” John 4:34
“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30
Jesus knew his mission and refused to be distracted with earthly things. His focus was on the end. He knew his purpose while on this earth…to do the will of His Father.
He didn’t leave his mission because of
discomfort,
rejection from others,
tiredness,
disallusionment or
discouragement.
He pressed on to the very end, holding nothing back, to complete the will of God.
St. Thomas Aquinas, the famous priest and philosopher, was known for his profound writings about the mysteries of God. He had an understanding of the Scriptures that few possessed.
In just a few months before his death, Aquinas had a vision of eternity, and the wonder and majesty of what he saw, triggered him to write these final words
“The end of my labors has come. All that I have written appears to be as so much straw after the things that have been revealed to me.”
Our home in eternity is beyond our imagination. 1 Corinthians 2:9 describes it as,
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him.”
If we can keep our focus on eternal things and live each day with our mission in mind…some day very soon we will cross the finish line and the reward will be far greater than what we could ever imagine.
Keep going until your last breath and let your final words be…IT IS FINISHED!
