Highest of All

There is something truly awe-inspiring about being in Washington, D.C. The city’s breathtaking architecture serves as a testament to the nation’s history, while the weight of decisions made daily resonates far beyond its borders, impacting not only the United States but countries across the globe.

I recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., where I participated in several meetings. Arriving late at night and stepping into our hotel room, I was met with a delightful surprise. Positioned on the 10th floor, it featured two walls with large windows that offered a stunning view of the city. As I gazed outside, the Washington Monument stood majestically against the night sky, while not too far away, the iconic Capitol rotunda seemed to beckon with its grandeur.

The next morning, I awoke with the soft light streaming through the curtains. As I got ready for the day’s meetings, I couldn’t resist pulling back the drapes to reveal a panoramic view of the city. Cradling a warm cup of coffee in my hands, I stood in awe as I felt the undeniable power that Washington D.C. exudes over the world. It is a city where leaders from every corner of the globe have gathered, making decisions that shape the lives of countless individuals.

As I paused to pray for the day’s unfolding events, the tranquil melody of “Holy Forever” played softly through my travel speaker. Its poignant lyrics brought everything into sharp focus. I was reminded that the immense power represented by Washington, D.C., utterly paled in comparison to the boundless power of God. He alone holds everything in His hands, the true source of strength and guidance in a world of uncertainty. God alone is worthy to be praised and adored, and His standards bring true life to the souls of humanity.

As Kari Jobe’s voice sang out these words below, it became a holy moment of praise to the only one who is deserving. I was reminded that there will be a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all (Philippians 2:9-11).

A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us, and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb

Your name stands above them all

“Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.”
2 Chronicles 20:6

May we continue to live…
