SO LITTLE FAITH

A desperate man rushed up to Jesus and fell prostrate at His feet begging Jesus to deliver his son from demon possession.  The man had taken his boy to the disciples for help but they could not heal him.  With one spoken word from Jesus, the son was immediately set free.  The frustrated disciples asked Jesus why they couldn’t drive out this demon.  His reply…

“Because you have so little faith.  I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move.  NOTHING will be impossible for you.”  Matthew 17:20

I so desperately want this faith.  I want to tell the mountains in my life to move and believe that they will.  I want to hold fast to the promise that NOTHING will be impossible for me if I walk in faith.  Jesus even specifically stated, “I tell you the truth!!”  When my kids were young I had determined in my mind to not lie to them.  I had decided to not tell them there was a Santa Claus or Easter Bunny because I thought, what happens when they find out that they aren’t real even though I had told them they were.  Would they then question if Jesus was real?  After all, they can’t see Jesus.  Would they doubt other things that I told them?  It has served me well.  I have been able to tell my kids…”I have always told you the truth so you can trust me in this as well.”  And they know their mom will always tell them the truth.  This gives my statements credibility.

I see Jesus doing this to the disciples.  “I tell you the truth.”  Jesus is truth, there are no lies, no deception, no manipulation.  If we trust Him for our salvation we must trust Him for the rest of His promises.  If I have faith as small as a mustard seed…my mountains will move.  His truth is, “NOTHING will be impossible for you.”
