“We have imitated the world, sought popular favor, manufactured delights to substitute for the joy of the Lord and produced a cheap and synthetic power to substitute for the power of the Holy Ghost.”
A.W. Tozer
As time lengthens in our walk with the Lord we find ourselves drifting away from the intimacy we once shared with Him. I’ll never forget my freshman year of college. There was a fellow classmate whose room was just down the hall from me. Everytime I saw her there was a spark in her eyes and a joy in her step. It was authentic and real. She spoke of the Lord with such great love and overwhelming gratefulness at His goodness. She was a relatively new believer and was an inspiration for me to remember my First Love.
We so easily get distracted and “entertained” with the world around us. We settle for the cheap and dismiss the eternal. Human creation becomes our focus instead of God creation. We forget to look up and instead walk with our heads down getting excited with the rubbish around us while rejecting the delicacies available with the Lord.
With the dawn of a new year I am often compelled to take a closer look at my life and evaluate how I might live differently. This year I long to live out my royal status as a daughter of the King and live each day reflecting this truth. 1 Peter 2:9 promises us that “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” If only we lived in light of this promise. No longer would we be satisfied with broken trinkets and instead live our lives in a way that would tell the world how amazing our King truly is. Often our lives fail to reflect the glory of our Creator and instead reflect the rubbish of the world.
May I not settle for the cheap imitation that has been promoted by the enemy of our souls since the beginning of time and instead, cling to the priceless life that is gracefully offered by my Savior.
Rooted in Him,
