There always seems to be a longing for something else, somewhere else, something that’s different from our today. We’ve all heard the phrase, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” I heard this variation of it the other day and loved it, “The grass is greener where you water it.” I thought how true that statement is. We always think something else will be better than where we are at and we never truly live and enjoy the blessings of our today. I am convicted to water the grass where I’m at, to bloom where I’m planted. It reminds me of this verse in Psalm 37:3-7, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Often times, I become impatient and discontent, always wanting something else. I fail to count the blessings that are around me. I fail to live the life that God has given me today and to enjoy the “pasture” where he’s placed me. I start to thrash and focus on the negative and in so doing cause the beautiful grass that He did give me to become dry, brittle and lifeless because I am focusing my energies on the “what ifs”. How would my perceptions about my life change if I began to water the grass of my today? How would the lives of those around me be impacted in a positive way? Why do I thrash and not “be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him?” May I wake up each day and “water” the grass where I’m at. I’m certain that very soon I will be living in a beautiful garden because I have done the best with what I have been given.
