“Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Psalm 107:4-9
As I look around I see people wandering in the desert lands. It’s the angry mom, the frustrated dad, the distant teen, the wild child, and the lonely elderly. It seems our world has spun out of control. We live our lives just eking out an existence. The beauty comes when we cry out to God. He longs for us to turn to Him, to finally get tired of our way of doing things and to realize that His way is the only way to live. It is at this moment that He swoops down to deliver us and sets us in a place of beauty.
God takes us as hopeless, confused and desperate individuals and brings us to a place of peace. His compassion is overwhelming. Psalm 107 gives us a picture of those who go against God’s ways and are left with their consequences. However, when they cry out to God, He saves them. It is our sin that takes us away from God but in His great mercies he comes and radically changes our lives. Our response should be the same as verse 21, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.”
“Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the Lord.” Psalm 107:43
