Beauty in the Waiting

I can only imagine what went through Mary’s mind during her last few weeks of pregnancy. Was there great anxiety? An overwhelming peace? Uncertainty about how to care for Jesus? Did she understand the depth of the miracle she was carrying?

Jesus, the God-man, was weeks away from making his human appearance in this world. His first cry that shattered the darkness was the beginning of His journey to the cross. As Mary had just a few more weeks of carrying the Christ-child close to her, did she know how much everything was about to change?

There is great beauty and much rooting that happens in the waiting. You may be in a spot in your life where everything seems to be on hold. There may be a hint of what is to come but you are not completely sure what that looks like or even what steps to take. There is much that happens in the quiet moments before everything changes.

As the Christmas season is fast approaching and the hustle and bustle of the festivities can easily stamp out peace, perhaps this is the time to pull back and just rest with our Savior. Perhaps this is the moment when He asks us to quietly rest in Him, to allow His presence to reside deep within us.

It’s the work He does inside us that changes how we look at what is around us. It’s His growing presence within us that forever alters the trajectory of our lives.

Rest in His closeness. Let Him whisper His love over you. Believe in His promises.

May we continue to live…
Rooted in Him,
