Standing Firm

Restlessness stirs in our hearts and minds. We may feel as if we’re stumbling in the darkness with poor eyesight. Perhaps we perceive we’re being tossed and turned in the waves of the ocean and desperately trying to stay afloat.

The often overused word of anxiety comes to mind. Why do clouds and fog threaten to overtake us, keeping us from seeing clearly? Why are we clumsy and uncertain as to the path we are to be on?

When it seems like everything is slipping away and thoughts are threatening to lead to a dark place, there is only one thing to do.

Stand!

Ephesians 6:10-18 carries the secret to a sound mind and a steadying of emotions.

  • “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:10-11
  • “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after have done everything, to stand.” Ephesians 10:13
  • Stand firm then, with ….” Ephesians 6:14ff

The enemy’s mission is to keep us stumbling, break us down, disorient us, frustrate us and lead us to despair. There will be days when we are hit harder than others. We may not be able to identify what is coming against the peace and steadfastness that is to reign in our hearts. It will always be a scheme of the enemy.

God’s provision for us to live an overcoming life is to put on every piece of armor He has provided for us. We will be empowered to stand firmly as we put on the armor. The attacks against our mind, heart, soul and body will be rendered useless as we stand in God’s strength and power.

It is a continual renewal of the armor that will keep us from being tossed and turned and enable us to stand steadfast.

May we continue to live…
