One Life

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”

John 4:34

What gives you sustenance? What fuels you? What brings you life? What can you not live without?

What kept Jesus alive, what nourished him, what fueled Him was His determination to complete His Father’s purposes for His life here on earth. It seems many are like the walking dead. They may be moving, communicating, building, doing, but all in meaningless pursuits. Many have been caught up in the “American Dream” which has resulted in only building an earthly kingdom and their joy and purpose is non-existent. We were never meant to live for ourselves… we were meant to live out the plans and purposes of our Father and to complete all the tasks He designed for us to do. This is our food, this is what brings meaning to our days, this is what brings the greatest joy and satisfaction.

Melanie Kirk beautifully wrote in an article entitled, My Greatest Fear in Life:

A vow to live every day as if it’s my one and only chance to make a mark, because it is.

  • To live my life on purpose.
  • To stop wasting time on things that don’t matter.
  • To step out of my comfort zone.
  • To live with passion and courage of my convictions.
  • To let go of the “what ifs.”
  • To never, ever give up even when things get tough.

Because at the end of the day life is far too precious a gift to squander.

We have but one life to live and we often waste our time on things that in the end are meaningless. But, today is a new day. How can we change the trajectory of lives and determine to live with intentionality and purpose? May we live each day fully alive instead of fully dead inside. May we live “all in” with God’s plan for our lives because it is there our joy will be made complete.

“Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.” -Acts 13:36

One life … His purposes … All in … to the very end!
