PEACE

In life, I often have a desire to control…to know what’s ahead…to plan and prepare.  I have a hard time living in the moment which often leads to worry, anxiety and frustration, all the while missing the beauty that is before me.  Even as I see the beauty of the moment, worry creeps in about tomorrow.  This morning I awoke to spend some time with Lord and I have felt impressed to just get to know God…not, how can I serve Him, what plans does He have for me…but to really spend time and get to know Him.  I opened a devotional book entitled Jesus Calling which is an incredible journal from Sarah Young where she writes what she feels God speaking to her.  Today’s devotional was absolutely perfect for my situation.  Please allow me to quote her.

“You will not find My Peace by engaging in excessive planning:  attempting to control what will happen to you in the future.  That is a commonly practiced form of unbelief.  When your mind spins with multiple plans, Peace may sometimes seem to be within your grasp; yet it always eludes you.  Just when you think you have prepared for all possibilities, something unexpected pops up and throws things into confusion.

I did not design the human mind to figure out the future.  That is beyond your capability.  I crafted your mind for continual communication with Me.   Bring Me all your needs, your hopes and fears.   Commit everything into My care.  Turn from the path of planning to the path of Peace.” (Page 272)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  1 Peter 5:6-7

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”  Proverbs 16:9

“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”  Psalm 37:5

This morning as I followed up this devotional by reading the Bible, I began to write down all of the attributes of who God is through my reading.  Just reading through Genesis 24, I see that God…
  • Blesses his people
  • Is full of kindness and faithfulness
  • Will lead us
  • Will grant us success on our journey
I am humbly reminded that God wants me in communication with Him, to trust Him, to really get to know HIM.  I am challenged to slow down, let my mind be controlled by His Word, and realize that it is with my communion with Him that everything becomes right.
