SIN WHISPERS

Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all.  In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.  Psalm 36: 1-2

My husband read this passage to me today and I could see a picture of the “Sin Whisperer”.  That loser, the devil, who roams around whispering to us.  It’s his soft words that become ingrained into our hearts.  Perhaps they’re words of discontentment, anger, jealously, bitterness, pride, hopelessness, despair, etc.  It’s those whispers that we don’t even realize come from him.  He is simply carrying out his purpose.  John 10:10 tells us, “The thief’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy.  My (Jesus’s) purpose is to give them a deep and satisfying life.”

It’s the “Sin Whisperer” that brings destruction to our lives.  He blinds us to the truths of God.  I think of a baby being lulled to sleep by his mother’s soft words, her whispers.  Sin does this to us.  We can be going on a wonderful path following our Lord but we become lulled by the whispers of the enemy.  We become blinded to who we’ve really become.

My challenge to myself is to make sure that I am hearing only God’s voice, His gentle whisper.  I will know by the results in my life.  Am I living a deep and satisfying life that comes from God or have I become blinded by the untruths of the enemy?
