There is Power in His Name

Memories of my childhood hold moments of stealing quietly away into the room in the house that held a tiny electric piano. It sat on the floor, made a humming noise when you turn it on, had a limited amount of keys, but to me it was my connecting point with God.

God so graciously woos even the youngest of children to him. Probably at not more than 7 years old, I would play the one song that would fill my heart with joy and peace. Using one hand, I plunked out the tune to “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. There’s just something about that name.” Over and over I would play and whisper out the words. It was my connection to my Creator as my little heart worshiped my Heavenly Father.

I learned at that young age, and it solidified in my heart through the years, that the name of Jesus could make things right, bring peace, comfort, perspective, joy and so much more.

Regardless of what we experience in life and no matter our struggle, entering into His presence aligns our thoughts and hearts to His truth. Scripture beckon us to see the power that lies in His name. The many names of God that are used in the Bible are descriptors of His character.

  • Jehovah Jireh – Our Provider
  • Jehovah Rapha – Our Healer
  • Jehovah Shalom – Our Peace
  • Jehovah Raah – Our Shepherd
  • El Roi – The God who see me

Names like Abba Father, Adonai, Alpha and Omega, Elohim and more. So many descriptors and so much power in His name!

Just the fact of speaking His name and calling on His grace and mercy can change everything. One of my favorite songs at the moment is “I Speak Jesus” by Charity Gayle. Here are just some of the lyrics:

I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
I speak Jesus
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
‘Til every dark addiction starts to break
Declaring there is hope and there is freedom
I speak Jesus
‘Cause Your name is power
Your name is healing
Your name is life
Break every stronghold
Shine through the shadows
Burn like a fire

Take a moment and let the beauty and truth of this song sink deeply into your heart.
