The Remnant

Throughout every dispensation there has always been a remnant – a called out group of strong individuals who will stand above the rest. It seems everywhere we turn evil is ruling and reigning and yet, there will always be a group of strong individuals who God has commissioned to stand for His truth.

The prophet Elijah lived in a similar culture. Evilness surrounded him and in his mind it seemed he was the only one following God. After a great battle and even with a powerful win, he found himself discouraged; yet the Lord strengthened him and reminded him he wasn’t alone. The Lord had called out a remnant.

Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”

1 Kings 19:18

Looking around at all the destructive cultural morays, we may feel we are the only ones who are serving God. Yet, just as in Eliljah’s time there are many around us who have refused to bow. There are many who are discerning of the Spirit and understand the times we are living in. There will always be a remnant who will be more powerful than the evil because we walk with the Spirit of God.

The Call

The prophet Jeremiah lived in a similar culture as well. We see the pattern throughout history of a small group of people standing for God’s truth. The Lord exhorted Jeremiah:

Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.  Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.  They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Jeremiah1:17-19

Just as God called Jeremiah to be His voice, He is calling us to be His ambassadors in this world. The exhortations in this passage are relevant to us today.

  • Prepare and be ready
  • Stand up and be bold
  • Speak God’s Word
  • Do not fear
  • The Lord will strengthen us
  • There will be a battle
  • We will not be overcome
  • The Lord will be with us
  • We will be rescued

There will always be two distinct groups. Those that bow to the culture and those that stand for the Lord. Will you be listed as the Remnant?

May we continue to live…

Rooted in Him,
