These 3 Remain…Faith

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:13

All these will last to the end of time … faith, hope and love. Each one carries a strength, a gift. Faith can be such a mystery at times – perhaps, even seem out of reach. Let’s dive into this for a moment.

Much can be said about faith, but the reality of its power often comes when we find ourselves in a desperate situation. It’s a word that connotates a trust, a belief, that God is moving even when we can’t see – believing that God is good and knows best. It’s trusting and continuing to move forward even when the unknown lies before us.

It was a word that Jesus used consistently through His time on this earth. It was by faith that individuals were healed, it was by faith they believed.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” It is an unswerving trust and belief in the power and authority of God and that He is intimately involved in our lives. And … trusting that He is so very good!

Faith is meaningless if we have faith in anyone or anything other than God. He is the only one that is perfect, all-knowing and all-powerful. He is the only one worthy of placing our faith in.

Faith is trusting that God will take an impossible situation and cause everything to work together for the good (Romans 8:28). Faith makes sense when you know the One in whom you place your faith. You can walk by faith even when you can’t see the results because your faith commits to your knowledge that He is good and that He is working.

“Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.”

Hebrews chapter 11 is known as the Hall of Faith. This powerful chapter chronicles spiritual heroes of faith and their journey of trusting in the Lord. Verses 33 and 34 describe them as such: who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the raging fire, and escaped the edge of the sword; who gained strength from weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.“

And yet verses 39 and 40 exhort us to remember that God’s plan is eternal – it’s not about creating heaven on earth, it may not be just as we want, but He always has eternity in mind. We are reminded that, “These were all commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. God had planned something better for us, so that together with us they would be made perfect.”

Faith is trusting in God even when we don’t understand. What do you need to believe in faith for?

  • Salvation for friends and family?
  • Your future?
  • Restoration of relationships?
  • Healing?
  • Provision, purpose and peace?
  • Something else?

There are so many areas of our lives in which we need to walk by faith. By intimately and deeply knowing the One whom is worthy of our faith and trust, we can confidently walk into the unknown.

“Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”
