WALKING WITH THE BROKEN

broken

“How we walk with the broken speaks louder than how we sit with the great.”

As I read this quote for the first time, by an unknown author, I was struck by the powerful point this statement was making.  I recently had the opportunity to speak with a man who spent the better of twenty years in and out of prison.  His past is filled with tragedy and remorse for the things he did.  But what I noticed most about him is his extraordinary love for the broken.  He spends his days working with at-risk youth who were in the same situation he had been in and his evenings with prison inmates telling them about the love of God.

This man allowed God to change him and in turn, he does all he can to introduce others to Jesus.  I think of Matthew 25:35-36 which says, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

How we love the broken is how we love Christ…end of story!
