Walk In Your Identity

“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”

John 3:16 – 4:1

Prior to Jesus’s temptation in the desert, His identity was confirmed by His Father. The words of confirmation thundered from the heavens declaring the identity of Jesus Christ.

And then… the time of temptation came. Jesus, walking in His full identity, was able to rebuff the lies and distortions of the enemy.

As we read through the temptations that assailed our Savior, we see they are the same temptations that commonly attack us. Do we walk in the identity given to us by our Heavenly Father? If we do, we will have the strength to rebuff the lies as well.

When we understand our identity in Christ we know:

  • the cravings of our flesh are temporary and can only be fulfilled with eternal truth.
  • that God doesn’t have to prove His care for us because He always has us in the palm of His hands.
  • everything this world has to offer pales in comparison to God’s glory.

When we walk in our identity in Christ we will be able to overcome the schemes of the enemy. We will know that we are the Son or Daughter of the Most High God and He has given us His truth, strength and power to be the people He has created us to be.

Rooted in Him,
