A Heart of Flesh

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

Ezekiel 36:25-27

Idols of the heart. We all have them and they always bring death. Our idols are anything we put above God – those things we think upon, things that determine our identity, our belief system and more. Whenever something else takes God’s rightful place, our hearts began to change. It’s often a slow death in which we don’t realize has happened until it’s too late. Before we know it, our hearts have become stone.

A heart of stone, one that forgets how to feel, one devoid of true joy, one that leads us astray.

But when God steps in everything changes. His refreshing, soul cleansing water removes all of our past death and destruction and brings life to what has died. It’s a cleansing like none other and one only He can offer. And with it… a beautiful soft heart.

Nothing we have done and no person on this planet is greater than the power of His Spirit.

As I ponder this verse, I beg of God to remove the pieces of my heart that have turned to stone and to remove the idols that have crept in. I welcome his Spirit to awash me anew.

May He give me a heart of flesh … that beats solely for Him.

Rooted in Him,
